Street Tuner

The Street Tuner Series at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, is designed for street, trucks, and motorcycles only. The vehicle in its current condition must be able to pass DMV inspection . Purpose built drag cars, such as bracket drag cars, dragsters and fully gutted import drag cars setup for drag racing only will not be allowed to race during this event. There are several other races at Auto Club Famoso Raceway throughout the season for these types of cars to participate in. The Street Tuner series is for the grudge racer, or in-experienced racer to practice their drag racing skills in a safe environment with their street car.

Summit Racing Equipment Racing Series

Summit Racing Equipment, an industry leader in the distribution of auto racing parts and equipment through catalogs and the Internet, is the primary sponsor of the NHRA E.T. drag racing series.
The NHRA Summit Racing Series that is contested across North America forms the world’s largest motorsports program in terms of racer participation. The bracket racing format allows drivers in many types of vehicles, including dragsters, roadsters, sedans, and coupes, to compete on an equal basis against each other. In addition to three categories of competition for cars, a motorcycle category is featured.
Participating NHRA member tracks across North America host regularly scheduled events and award points. At the end of the season, each track selects a team of racers from among its top points finishers to represent the track at the divisional Summit Racing Series Finals. Competitors, running in different categories based on performance, race until a champion is crowned in each category. Points totals also are tallied for team honors.

Division champions in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, and Motorcycle receive a division champion’s trophy, jacket, and purse. They then advance to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship at the season-ending Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, where they receive $3,000 travel money for attending the event in California and compete for a lucrative Summit prize fund, the national championship trophy, and jacket and contingency awards.

Auto Club Famoso Raceway, home of the Bakersfield March Meet!

The Famoso Raceway dragstrip is located north of Bakersfield, California, and is known historically as the home to the annual March Meet, also known as the U.S. Fuel and Gas Championships. The strip, located on Famoso Road between Highway 99 and Highway 65 east of the Highway 99 and Highway 46 interchange, was originally built in World War II as an auxiliary training base for the nearby Army Air Corps training base at Shafter’s Minter Field. After World War II, the Army abandoned the field. It was in the 1950’s that an aspiring group of drag racing pioneers from the Bakersfield area, the Bakersfield Smokers, purchased the strip and made the necessary adjustments to allow for drag racing. The Famoso Raceway hosted the first ever March Meet in 1959 and it helped establish the fledgling National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) legitimacy.
